Jonathan Pierre is a Senior studying communications, concentrating on public relations.
Pierre participated on the men’s basketball team during the 2017-2018 season. He functioned as the basketball team manager, dealing with interpersonal communications and encore activities. His job allowed him to talk to other teams while working with the basketball team during practice.
Pierre, is also heavily involved in ISA (Inspired strategies agency). He has been involved for two and a half years. He is a junior account executive and also helped on the team that constructed and hosted the first communications banquet here at Olivet Nazarene University!
Pierre is not currently involved with anything outside of Olivet, but with him being a communications major, he has always loved the power to speak.
“I believe that communication is essential to completing a task or completely understanding something, and which medication is just not verbal such as sign language is a form of communication, and it’s used to help or assist someone.”
Pierre believes that his communication skills came from his father, a Haitian-American pastor, who has been a pastor at Grand Rapids West international church of the Nazarene church for 13 years down in Michigan.
After graduation, which is coming up real close, Pierre would love to work somewhere relating to human resources, but he is willing to work in a marketing team or even as a public speaker for a company.
Pierre states that he is comfortable working in anyway to help his company and interact with people. A dream job that he has would be working for the NBA as a member of the communications department. Whether it would be managing social media, public speaking, team spokesperson, or simply being involved with ticket sales. Being involved with a major league team is a dream of his.
For the meantime, as Pierre is finishing up his bachelor’s degree, he is currently interning at The Bridge Teen Center in Orland Park, Illinois.
At The Bridge Teen Center, Pierre is the marketing/public relations specialist. He handles all of the social media, the branding through the Internet, and interacts with the business side of the Center.
“I think this job has really influenced me to fall in love with a social media type job, and I’m not a marketing major, but doing a lot of marketing responsibilities have made me feel comfortable in knowing I could probably do a communications and marketing job.”
It was not in his original plans, but Pierre states that it is something that he is very excited for and wants to continue learning and achieve. As he sprints towards the finish line, Pierre continues to learn about his passions and his ability.
A cool talent that Pierre has learned over the years is rolling a quarter up and down his knuckles without it falling off. Very impressive, I must say.
