An Insight On Jared Honey

An Olivet journey from the words of Jared Honey.

Jared Honey, who is a junior at Olivet Nazarene University, is not your average film studies student. While many students are watching movies or even studying theater plays and musicals, Jared is on the football field. Honey plays in the jack position which means he is a mix between a fullback and a tight-end.

Jared first heard about Olivet when Olivet’s football coach, Coach Renfroe, reached out to him. When Jared and his father visited, he fell in love with Olivet and knew it was the college for him. Both the coaches and the players took him in immediately and made him feel right at home. Even beyond football, he felt accepted at Olivet. Jared is in his third season of football and knows that he has made lifelong friends through it. Coming to Olivet, Jared also took his chance in pursuing his dream career, becoming a film director.

Jareds love for film has never gone away throughout his years. Watching films is one of his top hobbies. When he graduates, he plans to move to Atlanta, Georgia in hopes to hold a career in film or some other form of media. His ultimate dream is to become a successful director and screenwriter, or maybe even an editor. Jared has said that he gets the most inspiration for movie concepts by listening to music and he already has a few scripts in the works. Some of his favorite movies include The Dark Knight, Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan, and Pulp Fiction. His favorite director is Quentin Tarantino because of Tarantino scriptwriting skills.

Jared is also a man of many skills. Not only does he have a creative mind, but also has a friendly personality. He takes pride in this, knowing he has many friends with different backgrounds. No one is too small or big to be friends with Jared Honey. When talking about his creativeness, Jared has a special eye for it. He thinks outside the box and can come up with many possibilities for different scenarios, a trait important in the area of film.

An interesting fact about Jared is that he loves to take drives in his car to free his mind. He loves the fresh air on a summer day and feeling the wind while his windows are down. This is where Jared thinks about his film concepts the most, since taking a drive opens up his mind. While he turns on his music, he has thoughts of what would go well with that song. He turns that idea into a concept and evolves the story more as time goes on. This has proven to be effective for him, since he’s been doing this for years.

One of Jareds biggest passions besides film and football is Christianity. He has been a believer all of his life. He has had some up and downs but he has always stayed strong with his relationship in Christ. He plans to find a church when he moves to Atlanta and maybe even volunteer if he gets the chance. His favorite Bible verse is Romans 8:38-39 which states, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Jared loves this verse because it keeps him knowing that God has the full power in his life. With anything that can happen, Jared knows that God has a plan for him and will guide him for the rest of his life.
