A Day in the Life of Eli Hurn

Origins

Eli Hurn wasn’t sure where he wanted to go to college. Then his brother told him about the communication department at Olivet. After taking a visit, Hurn knew he needed to come to Olivet.

Elijah (Eli) Hurn is a senior multimedia communication major here at Olivet Nazarene University. He will be continuing his studies at Olivet next year. Hurn is from St. Louis, Missouri, which he said is “pretty boring, but it is what it is.” He is very close with his family, which consists of his mom, dad, aunt, and older brother who is a videographer for contemporary Christian bands. Hurn said his brother is currently on tour for “for King and Country.”

Hurn is typically introverted but can be more outgoing depending on the vibe of the room. Although he didn’t have time for jobs in high school because of basketball, Hurn has plenty of experience working. He worked at Lowes in Chicago over this past summer, which he said was “pretty fun.” He also worked for Kroger last year during the school year. After graduation, Hurn plans to work for ESPN as a sports broadcaster or journalist. He also entertains the idea of one day becoming a radio host.

Hobbies

Hurn has multiple hobbies and a wide range of interests, according to his friend, Zach Cantwell. He loves video games. His favorite ones to play are “NBA2K,” “Madden,” and “Fortnite.” Hurn is a big fan of basketball. He played the sport all four years of high school and might be playing for Olivet next year. Hurn loves to “hang out with the boys.” One of Hurn’s favorite things to do is to write. He writes about sports articles and journals, primarily. Another favorite hobby of his is shopping. Hurn loves shopping for hoodies more than anything, but he also likes to find new shoes and hats. He also loves listening to music. When asked what type of music he likes to listen to, he said, “Honestly all types of music. If I like it, I’ll listen to it no matter the genre. His favorite artist is Juice Wrld. According to Cantwell, Hurn “blasts the exact same song on repeat at a super high volume every night.”

Thoughts from a Friend

When asked to describe Hurn, Cantwell said he is an awesome, respectable dude who is always genuinely interested in what every person have to say. He said he shows a lot of facets of the multimedia major and has a great work ethic. The two friends worked with each other in Basic Video Production last semester. Hurn showed that he could do anything he set his mind to in projects. Even though he had setbacks, he was determined to push through and get done what he needed to get done. Canwell says Hurn “will find a lot of fruitful work in the future as a radio broadcaster for sports. He has a soothing radio voice. I could hear his voice on the radio and think that he is someone who you could be friends with, who cares about a lot of people, and his work and interests.” Hurn is always relaxed and always means well. He is an easy-going guy who gets along with everyone.
