Mike Miller
Mike Miller, an Olivet alumnus who graduated in May of 2014, has made significant strides in his career. Miller majored in Corporate Communication and minored in business minor. He worked in business development and project management for his family business, which his dad owned. Miller is married to his wife, Michelle Miller and they have three children: Ava Miller, Jase Miller, and Eli Miller. Originally from Schaumburg, Illinois, Miller fondly reminisced about his college days at Olivet Nazarene University.
Olivet Memories
During his time at Olivet, Miller cherished the memories he made with his friends. In particular, he recalled his sophomore year when Perry Recreation Center had its grand opening on December 12, 2012, at 12:12 P.M. The anticipation leading up to the event was palpable.
“That added a lot to our college experience being able to have a place that was so nice,” he said.
He also spoke about his favorite professor, Beth Patrick-Trippel (BPT), who had a significant impact on his communication skills.
“She had so many great lines, she helped me a ton with writing and becoming a better speaker and presenter,” Miller said. One of his favorite lines from BPT was “fake it ’til you make it.”
Dr. Jay Martinson, the chair of the department at the time, was another favorite professor who left a lasting impression on Miller. He enjoyed Dr. Jay’s enthusiastic personality and determination to teach students the capabilities of communication.

Currently, Miller is working full-time as an associate pastor at Living Hope Church in Elk Grove Village. He previously served as the youth pastor and made a significant career switch from marketing and management to ministry. Miller is also pursuing his master’s in communication from a university. When asked about his career, Miller mentioned how outlining and preparing for speeches were skills developed during college that proved valuable in his role as a pastor. Despite his lack of preaching experience, his experience in writing papers and outlines helped him succeed in his current role.
Advice for Current Students
Miller offered advice to college students, encouraging them to put their mind where their heart is. He emphasized that putting effort into writing and communications can yield fruitful results.
Practically, he recommended using Grammarly as an excellent tool to improve writing skills.

Lastly, Miller stressed the importance of putting faith first. He appreciated how Olivet allowed him to grow both in his education and his relationship with God. Prioritizing his faith has led him to many opportunities, including his current role as an associate pastor at Living Hope Church.
Mike Miller’s journey after graduating from Olivet serves as an inspiration to many college students. His success in transitioning from business to ministry is a testament to his dedication and passion for his work.
