Why Olivet?
What was the decision behind choosing Olivet?
Isaiah White is a sophomore at Olivet Nazarene University, A member of the communication department, a writer, and above all a follower of Christ. Isaiah comes from a long line of Olivet alumni, it was only logical that Isaiah chose to follow past family members’ steps and go to Olivet Nazarene University. Along with the generational pull to come to Olivet, his faith in Christ played a big part in his choice as well. White said that, “it’s not as prominent as I would like,” but still faith played a major factor in deciding on where to attend. So White knew what college to attend but didn’t initially see himself as a communication student. However eventually, he found his place in the COMM department. Choosing to major in Multimedia Communication with a concentration in Live Event Media Management.
Dive Into the Past
What about family life? And prominent memories?
Having an older brother and sister, White is the youngest in his family of five, plus the pooch. A close-knit family, with a travel time of two hours standing in the way of seeing siblings, it is easy for them to hang out and bond even as they get older. This includes extended family, of which two of White’s cousins also attend Olivet. With his brother being a film buff, and White himself running media for his church back home, he may have not known it then, but his subconscious knew he was made for the communication department.
Looking at his time before college, White enjoyed his time in high school, with him also being very involved then as he is now. He does miss not having to pay for his food, but can’t give up that freedom of choice that attending college has given him.
A Passion for Storytelling
Extracurricular activities such as his work with theater and media services
When not in class, or cranking out assignments White can be seen working as a part of the Media Services at ONU. This includes running the chapel, such as operating the cameras in the back of Centennial Chapel. Although he sometimes feels he always messes something up, he still enjoys what he does.
Besides Media services, White takes to the stage within the theater department. Just last year he starred in the play Life of Galileo where he played the man himself, Galileo. However this year he dialed it back by taking a side role in the performance of Clue in the spring (picture to right).
Student by Day Gamer by Night
Isaiah can be found either working his brain muscles wiring or his finger muscles gaming
A staple of the college experience is late-night gaming, and White can attest to this. He loves the different layers that come with playing video games. He says they “can be social and personal” with the option to play multiplayer games with friends, or diving into a solo game. Currently, his favorite video game is Bauldurs Gate III, a turn-based RPG where the player has millions of choices and paths to take.
Other than spending over 200 hours in Bauldurs Gate III White can be found doing his other hobby, writing. When White talks about writing, he does not mean the ten-page essays assigned, but rather free writing, or creative writing. He recently decided to pick up a writing minor due to his love for it and hopes to one day even write and publish his own book.
