Hope Meadows is a Senior at Olivet, majoring in Multimedia Communication with a minor in graphic design. She hails from Columbus, Ohio, where she grew up Nazarene. She was adopted by her parents from South Korea when she was just seven years old.
Her parents were not always religious–though they now are–and neither of them graduated college, meaning Meadows is a first-generation student at Olivet. She is proud to hold that title in addition to being one of the select few who went through the foster care system to graduate college.
She lives just half an hour south of Mount Vernon Nazarene University, where her brother went to college. Meadows mentioned that her brother has a “big personality” and that she wanted to carve her own path, which is why she chose Olivet.
“I didn’t want to be known as his little sister when I went into college…so I revolted and went to Olivet instead,” she said.
Her family encouraged her to attend Mount Vernon, but she noted a stubbornness inside of her to do the opposite of whatever she was told.
Around campus, you can find Meadows playing all sorts of intramurals. It is very important to her to keep her body moving and to stay active.
“I grew up playing sports, so any and all of them I pretty much do,” she said.
If she is not participating in an intramural, she is working out, taking pictures or hanging out with her friends. She mentioned that she cannot sit still, which makes sense considering her intramural career.
Meadows’ favorite non-athletic hobby is photography. She graduated high school with the equivalent of an associate’s degree in photography.
During her junior and senior years, she was only at the high school for 3 hours, and then went to the Career Center where she got her associates degree. You can follow along her photography journey on Instagram at @meadows.photos.
She does love to do photography, although she notes that she does not do it as much as she wants to. She has a hard time finding clients here as opposed to back home which is frustrating for her.
“People always want pictures of themselves. To get paid you need to work with people,” said Meadows.
Off campus, Meadows is an intern at Riverside Healthcare. She is the “brand voice” and a marketing intern. She noted that her job title switches often, but the work is the same; she is helping their marketing team in an office outside of the hospital.
Most of her work includes connecting with doctors and nurses and filming TikTok’s to promote Riverside Healthcare. She regularly attends meetings to come up with ideas, storyboard said ideas, and get the logistics down.
“My main job title is to plan, film, and connect with doctors and nurses and film TikTok’s,” she said.
Meadows is engaged to Jacob Comfort, another senior at Olivet, majoring in Cybersecurity and Computer Science. Comfort raved about her compassion towards others.
“She is very good at giving advice and being there for people and helping people. She is very caring and helps people whenever they need someone,” Comfort said.
Additionally, he listed just a few of his favorite things about her: her work ethic, organization, humor and cooking skills.
Meadows is a well-rounded person, participating in many activities, caring for her small circle, and pursuing many hobbies. However, this only scratches the surface of who she is as a person.
