2020 began in a weird way. The pandemic has swept the world, keeping people indoors, out of work and out of school. How people have been getting through this has been quite fascinating.
More and more people are turning to Social Media. People are uploading and watching YouTube videos and using social media platforms. Without technology this time would be difficult to get through.
People are using YouTube to uplift their spirits. According to Channel Factory, a global technology platform, “80% of respondents go to YouTube to improve their mood and 69% find the platform’s content more uplifting than other channels.”
COVID-19 has swept through the entire world but the use of social media had gone up significantly.
There are positive attributes of social media and what it can provide during a crisis like COVID-19. It can give people hope, it can improve their moods, or even just give them something to laugh at, or distract them from the news.
People are also changing the way they receive their information, if it’s not through mobile apps it’s through websites, according to the New York Times.
“Facebook, Netflix, and YouTube have all seen user numbers on their phone apps stagnate or fall off as their websites have grown,” the article reported. People do not want to look at their phones all day, so they have made the switch to their computers and laptops.
Social media been a outlet where people can go pass the time. During the current pandemic people are using social media platforms like never before. Businesses around the world are using social media in new and creative ways. For instance, a zoo in Cincinnati went live on Facebook to bring a safari to viewers’ homes.
According to the Facebook page, “the interactive live events let kids ask questions, share their finished projects with each other and enjoy an educational 20-minute distraction each day.”
People are also turning to celebrities during this time, who are sending out their cell phones numbers and asking people to text them questions. Kenny Smith from the NBA on TNT, sent out his number on instagram.
