Meet Yuka Battulga, a Senior here at Olivet. Her major is Multimedia Communication with a concentration in Film Studies and she is involved in the communication. department here at Olivet.
Yuka was looking at colleges centered around Christ and she always knew she had a passion for the film side of communications. She decided to come to Olivet when she heard about the Film program, however she did not originally attend to Olivet. She originally wanted to attend Trinity International University, however they did not have Film Studies. Prior to attending Olivet, Yuka went to Oakton Community College in Des Plaines Illinois to complete her general education classes.
“Film helped me find meaning in life and I thought maybe I could help others find something they are looking for through my work in the film industry,” Battluga said. She also sees film as a portal to another world and she loves other stories and often is touched by stories which inspire her to want to capture those stories on films.
You may be wondering what is Yuka’s dream Job? She wants to work on an film set as a art director. Art direction is what enhances and brings out meaning to design.
“I would love to further my education in the future and learn more on art direction” said Yuka. Olivet has a great film program and she thinks it will be great to help her find a potential in the industry. She is excited to be studying abroad in Los Angeles through the university in the spring of 2022 to help her complete the film program.
When asked how to describe Yuka in three words, current classmate, Josh Scharpenberg said, “Yuka is genuine, caring and optimistic”. If you know Yuka, these words are to be true and you might easily find yourself agreeing with Scharpenberg. Josh speaks of which character traits stand out when he thinks of Yuka, “Although she is quiet, she always has good insights and thoughts. From listening to some of her speeches in class, she always pulls through with a good speech”. Not many bad things at all can be said about Yuka, it’s true she is a hard worker with good characteristics.
In her free time, Yuka loves to worship,
“One of my favorite things to really do is really making time for worship throughout the week. I would not really call worship a hobby but it is something that I love to do and had started to play an integral role in my life since 2019” said Yuka. Aside from worshipping, she also likes to write poems and go on bike rides preferably longer ones. She also loves to spend time with her close friends.
“I envision myself being part of a team that has a meaningful and impactful story to tell in order to help change and influence the community and society I am a part of,” said Yuka.
For those that know Yuka, they will most likely agree that Yuka is a hardworking and genuine person who loves Christ and her friends.
