Embracing a Technology-Based Future
Since its first public debut in 1974, the personal computer has helped redefine what society believed to be possible within the realm of human interaction and connectivity. What started off as a simple experiment in Pennsylvania evolved into a full-fledged lifestyle for Americans. Jobs have multiplied by the masses thanks to computer technology and with that, a plethora of degree-based professions have flared up across universities nationwide including Olivet Nazarene University.

The computer science department at Olivet covers a broad variety of curriculum including cyber security, network & data communications, software development, and computing technology. Within these majors, students learn to effectively utilize programs to carry out digital tasks that can quite literally change our world.

Cole Arseneau is a four-year student at Olivet who is majoring in computer science entrepreneurship. He has been heavily involved with website designing since eighth grade and loves how Olivet is embracing the future now in the realm of digital science.
The CS Club
If you thought that majoring in computer sciences was enough for the students then you clearly haven’t seen all that Olivet has to offer. Extracurricular activities within the computer science department are the livelihood of its members. One such activity is the CS club. The student director, Braxton Handcock has more to say:
It’s a community as well as a learning environment.

The CS Club offers everything from simple movie and gaming nights to coding challenges. It is a great opportunity to get a feel for how the computer science department operates without fully diving into the curriculum. The club is managed both in person and online via discord servers. If you would like to get involved, the best way to do so is by showing up in Reed 212 on Fridays at 7:00pm.
Gearing Towards a Brighter Future
The best way to prepare for the future is by embracing the advancements of today.
Cole Arseneau

One thing is for certain: the digital world is not going away anytime soon. The best way to prepare for this fast-paced way of life is to focus on the present. Braxton and Cole both agree that modern technology is a gateway to the future. By embracing the resources of today, humanity can make a better tomorrow.
Preparing A Brighter Generation
Children as young as 3 years old are involved with the digital world of computer science. Games such as Minecraft for example, provide children with basic concepts of code placement and digital creativity. In order for Olivet to develop its computer science program to reach a broader audience, it must continue to embrace the potential in younger scientists.
