Freshman Housing

Freshman year can be full of new adventures and for many is their first time living on their own. Olivet is there to help support and encourage students in their new journeys with many community aspects. One of the greatest communities is where at student lives.

Nesbitt Hall and Williams Hall
Chapman Hall

Chapman Hall houses almost 200 freshman boys. This building is four stories tall and is well-known all around campus. Chapman is a large community of dudes being dudes.

“When I first was looking for schools one thing I definitely considered was the housing situation,” said Chapman resident Colin Elsbree.

“The thing that stood out to me as opposed to Nesbit was how high the ceilings are so I knew I had to live here.”

Elsbree said that there is a lot more of a community and it does not feel like they are living with just one roommate rather they have a whole floor of roommates.

“Being away at school for the first time can be scary but the Chapman experience has been a fun way to get me involved and feel like I am not alone,” said Elsbree. “Honestly there is not much I do not like about living here other than the stairs every day.”

One of the many pluses to an on-campus dorm that most freshmen do not realize is how centrally located they are on Olivet’s campus. Located on the border of the quad, the freshmen have the luxury of being able to walk to almost any building in less than five minutes.

Williams Hall houses a little over 200 freshman girls. The building is four stories high. A big plus to Williams is that it has a community kitchen.

Williams Hall

“Being in a freshman girls dorm can be chaotic but it can also be the best at the same time,” said Sam Como, Williams resident. Como came from a family where she is an only child so living with so many girls was definitely a new experience for her. “Honestly I didn’t know what to expect but I have loved every second of it.”

“Williams very quickly gave me a home away from home,” said Como. “Most of the girls are super nice and are always down to go out for coffee.”

Olivet takes great pride in its housing options. It offers two different housing halls for boys and girls. For males, students can live in either Chapman or Nesbitt. They are both very similar in living styles with some differences. Chapman has rooms for 2 or 3 where Nesbitt only has 2-person rooms. The rooms in Chapman have higher ceilings and wider hallways. Nesbitt has a laundry option on each floor as opposed to Chapman that only has laundry on the first floor. As a freshman boy laundry may not be a top priority when considering where to live.

For the females, the options are Williams and Parrott. Both are similar but do have some differences. Both options have laundry rooms and a kitchen hangout area on the first floor. Williams offers 2 or 3 person rooms with the option for suite rooms that have their own connected bathroom. Parrott is only community bathrooms. Parrott offers you two windows in your bedroom where Williams only has one. Both living areas are great options for freshman girls.

Living on campus is a highlight for many people that brings those together from all around the world to form memories for a lifetime.
