Olivet Nazarene University was the last school that now senior Jillian Halsey ever wanted to go too. She applied to every Nazarene school and some additional Christian universities with no intention to ever attend Olivet as her parents did. Halsey’s eyes were set on Trevecca Nazarene University until finding out they did not have a Public Relations as a major. All it took was one meeting with the Comm Department’s chair at the time, Dr. Jay Martinson and the rest is history.
Jillian Halsey is a hardworking, self-motivated, and outgoing senior at Olivet Nazarene University who loves making connections with others. She is the oldest of six kids in her family who she grew up with in Oswego, Illinois. Halsey is a double major and involved in various extracurriculars related to her major which she hopes to one day turn into a job as an event planner.
Halsey believes Olivet is where God wanted her to go and so far she has loved it here.
“Overall I love Olivet. I think that it gives you a great experience because it is not a huge school that you’re never going to be able to have a leadership position and competing against so many people,” said Jillian.

Jillian is currently the President of PRSSA.

She is currently is the president of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) at Olivet which is a nationally recognized organization helping Comm and PR students gain the experience and practical knowledge employers are seeking.
“I really enjoy it. It is a great learning experience because I’m able to lead a board and come up with a direction on how I want PRSSA run,” Halsey said.
On top of being president, Jillian is also taking on a lot of school work, double majoring in Public Relations & Strategic Communication and Corporate Communications. When asked what she plans to do with her majors and a career, Halsey knew exactly what her plans are for the future.
“I want to open my own event planning business in North Carolina and plan weddings, graduation parties, baby showers, and all the above. I would like to have my own venues, indoor and outdoor, and different rental services that I can offer people for their events,” Jillian said.
On top of that she also would love to open her own coffee shop and own some Airbnb properties to rent out to people.
Just recently Halsey and her family, who she is very close with, moved for the first time to Indiana from living in Oswego, Illinois her entire life with her five younger siblings and parents. This would be her junior year at Olivet, but after taking college courses/dual credit classes her last two years of high school, she is able to graduate in May 2022. Jillian is currently engaged will be getting married June 25, 2021 to her fiancé she has been dating since middle school. She then plans to move to North Carolina and to begin her professional career as an event planner.
