Career Development – a connecting office

College is a time for students to study their passion in hopes of finding a lifelong career upon graduation. For many students, however, it can also be a difficult process. Olivet’s career development office serves as a tool to help students succeed in their job search after graduation. Their services include assisting with resume building, searching for jobs and internships, preparing for interviews, and more. All of these services are completely free for all students.

“We provide everything from resume and cover letter editing to putting on career fairs,” said Amanda Hogan, director of Career Development. “We help connect employers to specific professors and majors that may want to speak in class or do on-campus interviews or host a facility tour.”

According to a 2017 study by the National Center for Education Statistics, 84% of students in the United States are successful in finding a career just after graduation. For Olivet, those numbers are higher, with 96% of students successfully finding a job within six months of graduation, according to the school’s website. Olivet provides services to students to assist them in their life even after graduation.

“The ultimate goal of getting a college degree is to begin your career journey,” said Hogan. “You need the right tools to help get you there.”

The Office of Career Development serves all students, from freshmen to seniors. They continue to assist students when needed even after graduation.

“There are people who will pay big bucks to have people do their resume and coach them through the process,” said Hogan. “So if you can learn now for free in a very safe environment to practice in, you can set yourself up for success in the long term.”
