Orchestra and opportunities

Student involvement in Orchestra

Orchestra has numerous of performances each year, but the most well-known is likely Sounds of the Season. This event is open to the public. The performances are almost immediately sold out once tickets are available. For those who miss it, they can stream it here.

For further information about the director read Alex Miller’s article located here.

Why did you decide to join orchestra?

  • I joined because I enjoy playing with others to create something that sounds like art when played together. When I practice my part, it sounds like a bunch of random sounds, but when played together with other parts, it sounds like a beautiful piece of music.

What are some of your favorite things about doing orchestra?

  • Some of my favorite things from orchestra are getting to joke around with my section and get to know people from others. We often joke about the music and how it’s out of our difficulty level.

What instrument do you play and why?

  • I play the cello. I choose the cello in middle school. The main reason I chose the cello was because my parents wouldn’t let me play the bass because it was too big. But I now continue to play because it has a beautiful timbre and the tenor range is enchanting.

Do you think you will use this knowledge to further your future why or why not?

  • I plan to be a music teacher after I graduate next year. With my knowledge of my experiences in orchestra, I plan to encourage my own students to feel the same. I know that not all of my students will feel as motivated as I have, but if I can give off that type of energy to my future students, I can at least get them excited for my class to give them a break from their regular curriculum.
