Drew Jones – Olivet Nazarene University

About Drew

On the grounds of the Olivet Nazarene University campus, there walks a potentiated communicator. He inhabits great strength and drive. Not only has he pushed through a high school football career, but has also endured the difficulties of being a college student. From being a football player in high school to following the aspiration to become a better communicator, Resilience and perseverance are only two of many words that can properly describe the upbringing of Drew Jones.

Drew Jones, from Frankfort, IL is a student here at Olivet Nazarene University who is currently studying communications. Jones had heard about Olivet after playing football games and running track & field events against Bradley Bourbonnais Community High School (BBCHS) where he knew a friend who was currently attending. This friend then mentioned that he was planning to attend Olivet, which would pave the way to a new chapter in Jones’ life.

All his life, he has been an extremely introverted person, which ultimately lead him to have an interest in becoming a better communicator. In high school, he did football in hopes that his communication skills would improve as being part of a team. With very little to no improvement in his communication skills, he figured he’d forget about the idea of bettering his communication skills. When he first came to Olivet Nazarene University, he was completely unaware of his growing interest in learning how to better communicate with people. He went through various fields of study throughout his time here, including Nursing and English. Despite the constant change in his field of study, he still had no idea that his true passion would be in communications. With time, Jones has been able to learn more about himself in this field of study.

Interview with Drew

A Learning Lesson from Drew

One of the questions not captured in the audio of the interview was “how do you think your past affects your present or future?” to which he responds:

“Sometimes you have to go through dark, depressing times to know what true happiness is.”

This is something that many people can relate to as it resembles the principle of needing to know what bad is in order to make the comparison to something good.

Drew’s Olivet Experience

Along this journey to become a better communicator, he made some of his greatest friendships because of his eagerness to better his communication skills, he has also discovered that he has a true interest in something that is deeply rooted in him. After interviewing Jones, he says “when I graduate, I plan on going to graduate school. I don’t know what Masters I want to get, but I know for sure, in the future I want to become a lawyer.” Jones follows up with saying that he wants to follow in his father’s footsteps in becoming a lawyer in the future. Along with his father, Jones mentions that his older brother has just recently passed his bar exam to become a lawyer as well. Reflecting on his life, it is inevitable that he will follow his dreams and aspirations and use his present experiences and circumstances to better equip himself for what is next to come.

The Voice of a Close Friend

In an interview with Jones’ close friend Gabe, as previously mentioned, he speaks about Jones with high regard.

Drew’s Hobbies

When he doesn’t have his nose to the grindstone, he enjoys lifting weights, watching anime, and playing videogames.
