Green Room Theatre Company: a student-run program within ONU Theatre. It offers great opportunities for students where they can gain theatre experience and grow in community with one another. A great performance does not come easily, countless hours of hard work are put in on and off the stage. Each show is a team effort. Besides a cast, each show has a director, stage manager, costume designers, lighting and set designers, as well as prop designers. Some of these designers overlap within shows, wearing multiple hats at a time.
Each semester, Green Room Theatre produces a number of performances for Olivet and the community to enjoy. Each show typically has four performances between Thursday and Saturday of its opening weekend.
During the Spring semester of 2023, Green Room Theatre produced “Captain Hook,” “Antigone,” “The Life of Galileo,” and “The 39 Steps.” All three performances were directed and performed by students. “Antigone” was directed by Sarah Breinig, “The Life of Galileo” was directed by Shelby Black, and “The 39 Steps” was directed by Bryan Deiken.
Student directors are in charge of casting, running practice, and directing the performance as a whole. They make sure everything is running smoothly and going according to their plan in order to perform an inspiring show.

Sarah Breinig, director of “Antigone” is a senior at Olivet. She is a leader of ONU Theatre and has been a part of 20 full performances during her college career. ONU Theatre has become a home to her. She has worked hard to make the department a home to others as well. Breinig enjoyed the opportunity to cast new actors and actresses as major roles in her show.

Professor Kelsie Davis will be replacing Professor Ashley Sarver as the Director of ONU Theatre this fall. Professor Davis was heavily involved in ONU Theatre when she attended Olivet and she it has always been a place of connection and community to her.
“There’s a legacy aspect of this job, too. Not only do I want to serve these current students well, but I also want to pay tribute to my own professors and mentors who built this theatre program,” she said. She is excited to spend more time with theatre students and hopeful for the future of the department.
“My goal is always to create high-quality productions that challenge our students to grow, and bring joy and entertainment to our audiences”
PRof. Kelsie Davis
