Coffee enthusiast, Apple Music devotee, and mission-driven are just the beginning when taking a look into the life of Zshu Asis.
When asked to describe herself, the first thing that came to mind for Asis was coffee. “Coffee is my life. Zshu Asis is coffee,” she said.
While some people have their specified Starbucks order, Asis is passionate about any and every version. Whether it is black, shaken espresso, cappuccino, or a latte, Asis is happy to have it. Although having a Starbucks on campus is convenient for passion, Asis says “nothing can compare to the coffee at College Church Cafe.” Not only is this coffee free, but the volunteers often generously provide snacks alongside it. Asis explains that this obsession goes beyond the satisfaction of an impressive cup of coffee. Coffee is a way to connect, to build community, and ultimately an opportunity to display her faith.
Katie Draper, friend of Asis, says, “In Zshu’s freetime, she is always keeping coffee with someone and taking the time to learn about their life.” Asis believes that around every encouraging, thought-provoking conversation are a good friend and a good drink.

Digging A Little Deeper
However, there is so much more depth when it comes to Asis than coffee. Her passion for Olivet Nazarene University’s mission is clearly displayed through her hours of dedication on the social media committee, admissions office, and in one of the most popular places on campus, Perry Center.

Asis’s bubbly personality combined with her sociable energy makes jobs like these a perfect fit. Whether it is taking the time out of her day to give a tour to an incoming student, working early mornings at the front desk, or spending late hours of the night brainstorming for Life At Olivet’s next big Tiktok, Asis is dedicated, diligent, and driven. Nevertheless, Asis’s time at Olivet goes far beyond her work life. As a student studying Public Relations and Strategic Communications, she is expanding many of her skills such as communication, writing, and creativity. Exciting things lay ahead as she is expected to graduate this coming May of 2023. On top of her typical responsibilities, she is deep in job searching to determine the best route for her future.
Where It All Began
Student and student worker by day, loyal to her beloved family by night. As a half-Spaniard, half-Mexican, townee, Asis has experiences and memories that are unlike any other. With just one younger brother, nicknamed Dipper, her family is dependable, fierce, and trusted. However, her family would not be complete without their cherished puppy, Tido.
One of Asis’s favorite homemade dishes is floutas. These tortillas filled with chicken, cheese, and other tasty fillings are a staple in the Asis household. Asis often longs for the consistent goodness that flows from her mother’s kitchen while she is at Olivet.

Asis lives a beautiful, chaotically busy life. Her schedule is filled with opportunities to serve others and build relationships. She pours into her education, work, family, friends, and most importantly, her faith. The future can be uncertain for many, especially during this season of life. There are so many unknowns and questions to be asked. Nevertheless, with the passion and drive that Asis holds, the future is certainly looking bright and full of excitement.
