Kacie Chung walked around Olivet Nazarene in November 2020. She stared at the bare trees and the snow-covered ground. She remembered thinking Bourbonnais is a lot different from her hometown in Tucson, Arizona. Her ears were freezing but her nose was warm due to the mask mandate. She was frigid and was wearing a thin coat. She had no idea that this would be her future. Although a lot different from 75 degrees and sunny Arizona, she loved her visit to Olivet. It was a tough decision to go so far from home, but God made it very apparent where she was to end up.

Hobbies

Chung is involved in multiple different clubs and activities on campus. She is involved in many intramurals at ONU. She has played basketball and two different volleyball intramurals.

One of her teammates, Sydney Eldred said, “Kacie is very passionate about basketball. She always puts the team above herself which is why I love playing with her.”

She loves being competitive but not too competitive because it is intramural. She also spends a lot of time going to the gym. She is not big into cardio but really wants to be. Chung loves to scrapbook and try new crafts. She tries to write down all her college memories and create fun pages to look back on. Chung loves spending her time playing sports, going to the gym, and trying new arts and crafts.

Accomplishments

Chung won the most valuable player award in basketball her senior year of high school. The award represented her determination and leadership. She was also student body president throughout her senior year. Chung would be responsible for homecoming and prom themes and decorations. Kacie said, “I loved supporting my student body and listening to their wants and needs.” Her past experiences in leadership soon led her decision to become a resident’s assistant in Grand apartments next fall in 2023.

Jobs

Chung has a couple of jobs on campus. She is a preaching ambassador. She goes to a couple of churches throughout the semester and preaches. She loves experiencing preaching in front of a whole congregation at times. Although it is terrifying, people have always been supportive of her.

One of her favorite memories is when a family approached her after service and requested to pray over her. Chung was humbled and appreciative of their kind words. She also works in the Wisner office as a student worker. She files paperwork for the nursing majors, which you can imagine is a lot of work. She decorates Wisner and keeps the classroom stocked with markers. She enjoys this job because of the positive environment.

Closing

Overall, Chung loves to do many different things on and off campus. She is grateful that she ended up here at Olivet Nazarene University. She has discovered a love for sports in a mostly noncompetitive way through intramurals and continues to build friendships. Mostly, Chung is appreciative of the opportunity God has given her and she continues to show His love in every way she can.
