Liu is known to be free-spirited but, also has a technique on the ice. She is a former prodigy who earned her first U.S. title at just 13 years old. She was the third U.S. woman to land a triple-axel and to land a quad in a competition. She earned 6th place at the Beijing Olympics and at 16 she decided to step away from skating but then returned two years later. After training and less than a year later she won world championships. She has been labeled skating’s “Unbothered Queen.” Liu did a free skate to the song “MacArthur Park” by Donna Summer and is a picture of what it means to get back up even after a fall.
Alysa Liu being the first figure skater to win Olympic gold in 24 years is a major accomplishment, not just to her but to the United States. Liu is now an Olympic gold medalist, now her PR team will have to manage all the publicity she will be receiving. They must quickly transition her from an elite competitor to a national winner.
