Packers Media Branding

The Green Bay Packers have a particular way of branding their social media content and its press releases. Both of these sources of news and media utilize some of the same methods, while each also contains their own forms of identity.

Both social media posts and press releases rely heavily on high-quality photos. The grid on the Packers Instagram page is usually flooded with photos from practice or from games. This creates an aesthetic appearance when someone stumbles upon the page. Likewise, the press releases have a respective feature image with the same idea: a great, well-edited photo pertaining to the story.

Looking at their press releases under a microscope, it is easy to see what the organization prioritizes in terms of content. Quotes from relevant individuals are common. Whatever the subject matter is, the Packers look to get the highest voice in the company to speak on the event.

Through social media, we see a tendency to stay relevant with the time period while also consistently feeding followers more content. You can expect two posts each day.

In the midst of the offseason, we see player spotlights, remixes from the archived footage of games from last season, general company news and then the occasional filler post of some pictures.

During the regular season, it is common to see even more posts. They share statistical performances, highlight plays, game-day and final score graphics, mic’d-up segments and game photos. Gameday’s typically have five to 10 posts depending on the situation.

Both the press releases as well as the social media accounts shy away from any sort of negative content or even any slight self-criticism. While players and coaches often take accountability in postgame press conferences, we rarely see those statements make their way into the media outlets.
