Hunter Overholt: A Colorado boy and a camera

Dreams of a college swimmer fell through, but bigger dreams were around the corner for undergraduate student Hunter Overholt.

Hunter is from Denver, Colorado, and is majoring in Multimedia Communication, concentrating in TV video, which makes a lot of sense once you get to know him.

Hunter works three different jobs and juggles classes here at Olivet Nazarene University. Hunter has become a pro at balance, balancing the college life schedule. He said that this semester is thankfully a light a lighter load in his credits, so he has been able to focus more on the three different jobs he has.

Hunter curently ia working at media services, at the University. He loves having the flexibility within the job.

“You never know when events are going to happen, so there’s a lot of planning and balancing hours that is required”.

Hunter commented about working for Media Services

He has to give his full attention and effort when he goes to work because you’re not able to do homework at the same time as operating a camera.

After talking to one of his coworkers, Jani Massey, she commented on his video skills saying “I know he is very passionate about it. And when someone is passionate, they want to keep working on it. His hype videos are always so fun to watch.”

Hunter had the chance to be a guest on a podcast with Jani, if you would like to here more about them working together check it out on Perfectly NOT Normal podcast.

Hunter has real talent working with the camera. This camera talent also applies to his other two jobs. He works for the Glimmerglass Newspaper at school and the yearbook at school. While working for Glimmerglass, he said, balancing his schedule is a lot easier because “I get to pick my assignments which is a luxury.” He loves this job because he can tasks between the gaps in his schedule.

While working at the yearbook, he noticed that you don’t get to choose your assignments, so employees “make the extra effort to go to the event and stay for a long enough time” to get material.

A pro behind the camera, but also, Hunter is a pro with people. Hunter loves to give friends a chance to escape from the busyness of life. One of his most proud accomplishments he said is, “Every Thursday night, I have people over, I pop in a pizza, and watch Brooklyn nine-nine.” Such a simple activity has become one of his favorites while attending Olivet Nazarene University.

When talking to Jani Massey, she mentioned that Hunter is “always very positive and has encouragement for everyone.”

As a lot of his hobbies revolve around a camera, another hobby is in the theater Department. He joined Broadway revue about a year ago and loved it. He said he is so thankful for a small school like Olivet that gave him a chance to be on the stage. He knew that if he wasn’t at Olivet, he probably would not have gotten this opportunity. He is currently in rehearsals for these shining lives.

” I remember him in Broadway review, he had a lot of energy which brought energy to everyone else, which was nice.”

Hunter has fallen in love with Olivet and its campus. But media was not his first love or reason to come to the school. He came to Olivet wanting to be a swimmer but decided to retire 14 days into the season. He is thankful for the opportunity he had and realized that it was used to open so many more doors here at Olivet.
