Josh Seiberlich

Getting the Most out of His Last Semester at Olivet

Born July 31, 1998, in Galesburg, Ill., Josh Seiberlich transferred to Olivet in 2019 to study multimedia journalism in the communications department.   Seiberlich is a witty senior who enjoys basketball(playing and watching), video games and a good ribeye steak.

Seiberlich’s friends describe him as quiet, funny and independent.

“I would say I’m mostly introverted, but once I’m really comfortable around people, I can become extraverted,” he said.

One of Seiberlich’s close friends is actually his younger brother Justin, who happens to be his roommate this year in Hills, one of Olivet’s campus dorms.

“It’s been really fun having him here,” Justin Seiberlich said.  Along with his youngest sibling, Justin… Josh has 2 older siblings.

Loving the campus and loving the community, Seiberlich talks about his experience at ONU.

Loving all sports is a quality Josh has, but his main sport to watch and play, is basketball.  If Josh has a free afternoon this is one of the things you’d be able to catch him doing.

Seiberlich has recently interviewed the sports editor for the Kankakee daily journal, as well as the beat journalist for the Chicago Tribune who covers the Bulls.

“It was really cool.  He was a younger guy, in his late 20’s.  He gave me great insight about what the industry is like and how he has had to adjust to COVID over the last year,” Seiberlich said.

This journalist also told Seiberlich that the work and the experience you get in is sometimes more important than what title is on your diploma when you graduate.”

Currently involved in his internship with Sam Viebrock, the Sports Information Director at Olivet,  Josh does end-of-game recaps and works with basketball and soccer. Soon he will do work with track, tennis, and golf as well.

“My whole life I have been playing basketball and soccer and have been watching basketball, soccer, and football since I was around 10 years old.  I fell in love with writing about sports by watching ESPN and reading different sports articles,” Seiberlich said.  His dream is to be a sports journalist for the Boston Celtics someday, but he says, “I am keeping my doors open for anything.”

“Reading other people’s sports articles motivates me to write like them…or even better than them!” said Seiberlich.  He goes on to say that watching ESPN and watching them cover certain aspects of sports is another thing that gets him motivated.  A quote that Josh loves is, “With great power, comes great responsibility.” …spoken by the one and only Spiderman.

A perfect day for Josh would be Sunny and 75, waking up at noon and indulging in some chicken nuggets and fries.  He also talked about his perfect day including basketball, watching the office, and playing some of his favorite videos games which include NBA and Call of Duty.

Back home, Josh has a walker coon hound named Roscoe and he also worked at Farmer King.  Two items on his bucket list are: “going to Hawaii to relax and sight see” and “to sit courtside and a Celtics game”.
