Andrew Erhler, a Junior at Olivet, comes from Seneca, Illinois just east of the popular Starved Rock tourist attraction. Andrew majors in Multimedia Communication here at Olivet Nazarene University with a concentration in TV and Video but this selection didn’t come easy. At first Andrew thought that business was the way to go especially with his knowledge of it but after speaking to his roommate who was majoring in Business he decided to take another path.

Humble Beginnings

As a junior in highschool, Andrew took a video editing class that used decent equipment such as camcorders and Adobe. He admits that he took this class as a blowoff class thinking it would be easy and something he could just do and get it over with. He would go from taking this class one time as a blow-off course to taking it both semesters his junior year and both semesters his senior year.

When a new teacher came in and was teaching the rest of the class the basics of Adobe and other tools Andrew would already be working on the project at hand. His dedication to this course would allow him to excel and be ahead of most of his classmates. Even though Andrew was ahead of the class he didn’t keep to himself. He used what he knew to help others around him and get them up to pace.

When trials come Drew remembers why he should always push forward

Like anyone, trials and obstacles get in the way of progress and Andrew is no stranger to this. On a hot summer of July 2020 Andrew was working at a construction site when he was ran over by a truck on site. The truck had ran over both of his legs but one thing happened that helped Andrew realize God was looking out for him that day. The radio he was using at work was out of his reach but thankfully the button was jammed in place which allowed his coworkers to hear his cry for help and came to his aid ultimately saving his life and giving him another chance at life.

As Andrew moves forward in his education and life he carries many things including appreciation and motivation. One thing that he won’t bring with him is the fear of obstacles. He remembers what happened to him and doesn’t want to go that route again. When he encounters obstacles in his life he can remember that moment and use it as fuel to keep going.

What is in store for the future of Andrew?

When asked about what he wanted to do in the future after college Andrew said that he wanted to go into journalism but more specifically meteorology after meeting Prof. Bishop. He had known who Bishop was because if his days at AB7 and Andrew drew inspiration from that.

But as of now, Andrew has refocused his vision of corporate media and would like to make promotional videos for any companies he would work for. Andrew also loves to make documentaries and has listed this as a backup if the marketing side of things doesn’t go as planned. He is searching for an internship currently in different places and although he has sent resumes out he hasn’t landed an interview yet but he continues to have faith and keep putting himself out there.

Across the World

Andrew isn’t just your typical local guy. He has traveled across the country
and that’s not it. He has even traveled across the lake over to Europe. He
explains the experience of going to Belgium where people thanked Andrew and his
companions as American Tourists for saving them from the Nazis. He describes
this as being the most odd thing that he has experienced. But in other places
the “Thankfulness” wasn’t so much.

Andrew says, “I had a french man tell me to go away but in a more
explicit way than that”.

Andrew shares another funny experience of boarding on this train in a hurry
with his school. He noticed that he could hop on a car next to another car and
he would be next to them and get off at their spot together but he noticed he
was alone with no one else from his school in the train car. The teacher saw
this as a funny moment and snapped a picture.
