Knowing Jacob Lavin

“Treat others the way you want to be treated” is the personal motto that Jacob Lavin lives by. He is incredibly kind, personable, and invested in conversations which radiates to those around him. It truly makes sense why he holds that motto so dear.

Tremendous Transfer

Growing up in church, Jacob gained a passion for the multimedia side of communication and has been helping in his church for years. This would culminate in his interest to study multimedia communication as college student.

Being a resident of Frankfort, Illinois for most of his life, Jacob felt that Olivet would be the perfect place to continue his education and cultivate his passion.

“It’s (Olivet Nazarene University) always been a school I thought about. I thought about Liberty, Grand Canyon, all those Christian schools and I just thought it (Olivet) was cool. That was close, and here I am”.

Transferring into a college later in undergraduate education can be quite daunting for some people.  For others, it may be what stops them from transferring at all. Jacob has welcomed this opportunity with wide-open arms.

He highlighted the amazing community he has come to be a part of in Olivet. When asked about his favorite memory so far, he claimed to not have one but rather how he has enjoyed meeting so many nice people and how he has made friends for life. The people he’s met have helped him foster a Christ-centered, friendly, and supportive environment for himself.

However, Jacob is much more than just an Olivet student. He has many hobbies and past times that keep him busy. He interns for the media services at ONU, working the camera on sports games and other events. He is an avid gamer, enjoying video games like Madden 2022 and other subsequent sports games. As a very enthusiastic sports fan, if he’s not playing sports games or covering them as media services, he watches them with family. He rather enjoys leagues like the NFL and the NBA as games from very regularly televised and discussed.

Jacob does love to unplug every now and again by going camping with family to see nature in its beauty. His family has a Grey Wolf camper that they hitch to their truck when they plan on having a stay in nature for the night. Jacob would go on to tell me about how much of an enjoyable experience this is for him and how refreshing it can be. Out of all his hobbies, this seemed to be the most prominent in his description and fervor to speak on.

Family First

After talking to Jacob for any amount of time, you will quickly understand that he is a very family-oriented individual. He cherishes those around him and makes the moments he has with them last. He was asked to describe his perfect day and time with family or close friends was a great deal of the 24 hours. His perfect day would go like this:

  • Get up around 10 am on a Saturday
  • Get breakfast
  • Spend some time with family
  • Hangout with some friends until dinner time
  • Have dinner with grandparents
  • Relax at the end of the day

Jacob Lavin is a very one-of-a-kind person and is truly a great individual to know once you’ve been introduced. As a caring, dedicated, and passionate 22-year-old breaking into the world of multimedia communication, the world is his oyster.
