A dress code? Chapel service TWICE a week? Now, that can be read in two very different tones with very opposite attitudes behind them. When Kaye Allpow heard about Olivet through her sister, Grace, upon hearing these rules she said she would never go. But once she discovered the film program the school had to offer, which includes an opportunity to study in Los Angeles, ONU stayed fresh on Allpow’s mind.
Although Allpow had thoughts and hopes of attending a university in Hawaii, or even in her home state, Indiana, she felt an expectation to attend Olivet, and felt as if it was the only option available for her.
Even with some things weighing heavy on the heart getting to Olivet, eventually, Allpow found her best friend Chloe Bogicevic! Bogicevic brought out the best in Allpow and many of her happiest moments were with her best friend. Allpow is currently looking forward to visiting with Chloe in Florida.

Career Prospers
Reminiscing on the best past memories and moments, Allpow recalls directing her own adaptation of Hamlet. This project gave her lifelong friends, genuine connections, and unforgettable memories. Although, Allpow can’t wait to create more of all of these things, sadly she has felt a recent disconnect from her passions and plans.
“I have no dream and that’s what kills me. If I don’t have a dream, I don’t have a purpose,” she said.
Trying to find that dream and purpose, Allpow has been stepping more into film-making as well as videography. In her Basic Video Production class, she did hands on film making with production-level equipment to produce a silent film. Playing the role of the videographer, Allpow fell in love with being behind a camera all over again.
“It made me so happy to be creating a film with my friends. It was refreshing,” she said.
Expressing interest in multiple media facets, Allpow explained that she would be interested in pursuing her childhood dream of voice acting further. With that on the back burner, Allpow says she waits for God to tell her where to turn now.

Life
Allpow said her biggest challenge has to be losing theatre. With this passion melted, she noticed a lack of passion and motivation within other areas of interest as well. Luckily, to help cope with these very valid struggles, she has Kaye as a cat. Or as Allpow calls her, Obi. Allpow says Obi is the reason why she is able to get up and go to classes and activities because she has to spoil her baby.
One person who has also been alongside her during her struggles is her close friend Gabby Way. Having met through Olivet, Way only speaks highly of Allpow. Way explains her admiration for Allpow’s ability to steal the room’s attention and create laughter and joyfulness in the moment with her quick-wittedness and genuine personality.
“I love being in Kaye’s company. There’s no time that her presence hasn’t brought me laughter. Our friendship is one of a kind,” said Way.

With every struggle, setback, moments of inspiration, and moments of lacked motivation, Allpow may not know what defines her now, but she fights for what she knows is part of her dream and stays open to whatever opportunity or path opens for her. Allpow’s goal is to be happy and make other’s happy as well as bring inspiration to keep fighting for dreams no matter what.
