Morgan Connor arrived at Olivet for her Just for Juniors day when Jay Martinson, the chair of the communication department at the time, asked her to come to a leadership meeting. There, she learned about what the communication department offered and soon became involved with the department.

Majoring in public relations and strategic communications, Connor is currently serving the Inspired Strategies Agency as the account executive. Within this role, Connor has been able to enhance her leadership abilities. The program has also allowed Connor to understand what it is like working with actual clients that are in the local community.

Before Connor enrolled at Olivet, she had come up a few times for a different event. The Illinois Music Educators Association often hold music events at Olivet, and Connor was a participant in those events. With those events, she was able to get a look into the music department.

As someone that has a passion for music, Connor decided to remain involved in the music department by taking on a music minor. In addition, Connor thoroughly enjoys being a part of the Orpheus Choir.

“I’m really passionate about being involved in that choir and I just feel like they always say a ministry in music with it and I wholeheartedly believe that,” said Connor.

With experience in both communications and music, Connor was able to go to Nashville for a semester with the Contemporary Music Center (CMC). While there, Connor was able to be the tour manager during the semester. Connor’s role as tour manager involved her booking hotels, meeting professors from various universities, and solving problems that would arise.

One problem happened when one of the professors was driving the truck for the tour and they hit a tree, causing scrapes along the truck. It was Connor’s job to contact the company and solve the problem. Instead of being overwhelmed with the situation, Connor stepped up to fix it and was satisfied with her results. One day of a festival they were working ended up being sixteen hours long, and everyone was exhausted, while Connor looked around and was excited to do it again.

“We had done a festival and it was around a 16 hour day and when I looked around at my peers, so many of them were exhausted. I was so excited to do it again,” says Connor.

Jacob Lavin, an Olivet student that went to CMC at the same time as Connor, says that “Morgan is for sure a super hard worker. Sometimes she might not get as much credit as she deserves for her hard work and success, but she’s an overall good person to work with. I’ve seen that a ton down at my time at the CMC and I can vouch for that.”

Before CMC, Connor and Lavin had never met, but the work that Connor put in was enough to make her stand out as a leader. Even though Lavin was in a different track that Connor at CMC, they still had to work together in order to make the concerts, tours, and festivals work smoothly.

Currently, when Connor is not in classes and studying, she works in the Library.

While Connor’s journey to Olivet started four years ago as a high school junior, she has already made great strides that show her abilities as someone who is passionate about both music and communications.
