TIGER PRIDE!
Olivet’s very own Koy Wilson is a senior majoring in communications studies. He participates in a school organization on campus called ISA which is Inspired Strategies Agency that allows students to work with professional clients and work on items like their brand and create strategies for their company. ISA helped him discover some of his passions like working with the Pregnancy Resource Center that allowed him to think about what support systems could also be created for dads as well as kids and what can be done to create a better environment for them.
JOURNEY TO OLIVET
Being from around the area Koy Wilson grew up in Bradley and began his schooling journey at Kankakee Community College where he then later went to Eastern Illinois for its broadcasting program. Throughout his time at Eastern Illinois, he was active. At one point he joined a fraternity. However, he later realized the university wasn’t helping him reach his intended goals and left.
During the time that he took off from school he went to the army reserves. Currently he is a machine operator that drives all the machinery to and from places in trucks through his job with the army reserves he gained some what he considers life-long friends and enjoys the self-improvement it’s been able to give. He since then has come to Olivet, and this is his first time back in school since 2019. Although there was an adjustment period with not being in school for a while he’s gotten into the swing of things and is ready to finish school to which he will then leave the army since he has a year left and move up in his career to provide not only for himself but for his family.
Family First
When it come to time outside of Olivet, Koy Wilson keeps busy. Not only does he have two full time jobs but is a full-time dad with his fiancé and son, Beckham. Wilson describes his son as high energy and obsesses over Bluey, a children’s television program.
When not in school, Koy Wilson works as an officer at Riverside hospital as well as an officer in the army reserves. In addition to his job at Riverside, he plans to start an internship with the public relations department soon. He hopes the internship will turn into full-time work, to better support his family.
Koy Wilson met his fiancé Tiffany in high school but didn’t start dating till after but were always around the same crowd. She works as a teacher at the preschool their 2-year-old son Beckham attends. When he’s not spending time with his family or at work and school, he spends his Saturday nights watching football with his four brothers watching Florida State play to victory.
Growing up all the Wilson boy’s were very competitive as Koy’s older brother Trey describes, “Sports was a huge part of our lives growing up and although it may have gotten us into a little trouble as kids because Koy was occasionally the troublemaker pushing our buttons and stirring the pot we still enjoy it.” Trey Wilson even added that he admires this trait still in Koy as it adds for his determination with everything he does and appreciates his ability to be a good dad to Beckham.
