Heeding and Sharing the Message

Heeding the Lord’s call, Rebecca Barak is a senior majoring in Public Relations with a minor in Criminal Justice at Olivet Nazarene University.

Transferring to Olivet after her Sophomore year, Barak feels confident that the Lord has placed her where He wants her. Though acknowledging where her understanding of God’s plans falls short, Barak is confident in her journey.

Barak plus Olivet may have meant to be as Barak has applied herself to her studies and activities as an officer for three clubs and two positions in professional institutions. Barak has extensive experience in utilizing social trends to relay messages to its widest audience.

As the publicist and membership chair for Olivet’s chapter of the PRSSA and NSLS, Barak engages with the student body, and attends national conferences for the nationally recognized societies.

Barak also interns at CSL Behring within the internal communications of their public relations division, planning events and disseminating information through external communications.

Along with her professional work, Barak is the treasurer for the History League, one of Olivet’s student-organized clubs. Barak applies her skills in clearly messaging specific audiences by collaborating with fellow members to brainstorm relevant history-related events. She creates posters that students access across different platforms and educate through activities an audience that would not usually be interested in historical topics.

Barak’s friend Ellie Butenuth says Barak’s skills are evident in her constructive but honest feedback, which empowers Butenuth to revise her delivery for the most discernible messages.

“We are very different people, so it has been great to get another perspective when going through life together.” Butenuth said, “Becca is very honest, logical, and is not afraid to tell me what I need to hear.”

With her education, Barak sees herself maintaining a multimedia web journal that documents recent personal and professional developments. Barak will utilize her community college to stay informed on research within higher learning and analyze social trends as a public relations professional.

There is a time for everything, and Barak looks towards the future, knowing her time at Olivet is almost complete and that maybe dreams do come true.

I am a student taking a Multimedia communications class and using WordPress for the first time. Even as a multidisciplinary student I do not have lots of experience in multimedia and digital technology. I am excited to see how my knowledge and skills grow, and my websites will change over time! My education will help with my mediums' experimentations and enable me to do more with the digital collection of my work.
