Olivet Student Josiah Fox Brings Creativity Through Puppetry

In a world where digital entertainment often dominates, Olivet Nazarene University Student Josiah Fox revives puppetry’s timeless art and amazes audiences with his recycled handcrafted puppets. With a passion that began recently, only a few years ago, Fox is showcasing his talents and inspiring others to explore the magic of storytelling through puppets. His recent puppets have garnered tons of attention around the community. Making him a rising star in local arts.

“Puppetry is a global art form, all cultures have some sort of puppetry,” said Fox

How Did Fox First Find Interest in Puppetry?

Fox first found his passion for puppetry while watching PBS a few years ago. He realized how well PBS connects entertainment with education, and then it clicked: Fox was going to make puppets to connect others to education.

Fox is studying English and Writing while also minoring in Art. He loves puppets because they connect perfectly with both subjects. Puppetry allows him to tell stories and express his creativity through writing and art. This combination makes his studies more fun and helps him explore new ways to share ideas.

“I’ve always done physical art, I’ve played with legos since I was born, so making the leap to puppetry only involved figuring out how to combine different materials,” said Fox

Community Impact

People in the community are starting to notice Fox’s puppets. He takes them everywhere, spreading joy to those around him. Folks often stop him to ask for pictures with the puppets, and kids are always in awe of his creations. Fox’s playful spirit and talent bring smiles and excitement to everyone he meets. 

Fox’s ultimate message is to show kids that it doesn’t take a lot of money, knowledge, or experience to do what you love.

Josiah Fox is Also The President of The Writing Books Club

Fox, the Writing Book Club president, embodies a passion for storytelling and a commitment to supporting other writers. He wants to work on his writing projects and help fellow members achieve their goal of becoming authors.

Fox, incorporates different strategies to please all members of his club. For example, he orchastres game nights, such as Dungeon and Dragons. The game involves surviving traps and monsters in a dungeon to collect gold and level up. Players can also engage in storytelling, where characters battle together over multiple sessions. This creates creative storytelling, helping the club’s creative writing.

Arli Pine, Fox’s friend, shared his thoughts about Fox during an interview, highlighting his generosity and kindness. Pine described Fox as someone who consistently goes out of his way to help others whether friends or strangers. 

Pine vividly recalls a moment when Fox went above and beyond to help him understand the Bible. Knowing that Pine often struggled with traditional interpretations, Fox thoughtfully gifted him an anime-themed Bible (Manga bible). This unique version featured vibrant illustrations and engaging storytelling that connected the scripture to themes and narratives familiar to Pine.

Fox understood that Pine had a passion for anime, so he wanted to make the Bible more relatable and enjoyable for him. This gesture not only deepened Pine’s understanding of the Bible but also strengthened their friendship, showcasing Fox’s genuine kindness and commitment to helping others grow in their faith.
