Growing up in the Plainsville, Illinois, Kayla Gere felt that she grew up in the middle of nowhere. Luckily, she had her two favorite things to keep her company: her family and music. The Gere family is very connected; Kayla has a close relationship with her parents and her two siblings, Chris and Dana. They often send memes to each other in their family’s group chat. With her parents being in a band, her household was filled with songs and instruments.
Creativity is Kayla’s speciality. She is studying Multimedia Communication, concentrating in Live Event Media Management. Kayla has always had a fascination with audio and video. It reminds her of time spent with her family. For 8 years, she has been working as an intern at her church services behind the sound and lighting boards. This experience helped her pick her major and work closely with her parents. She loves working as a team and creating things with other people.
Kayla describes herself as a “creative person in different ways.” Something she loves to do is mixing music. Kayla remembers her very first album being Whitney Houston’s Biggest Hits. At the beginning of learning Adobe Audition, she mixed together Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston and lately she has been trying to branch out into different, new artists. She enjoys listening to pop and R & B and wants to learn more about new music being released. Not only does Kayla mix music, she is also a singer. Starting young in her middle school church choir, Eagle Wings, she went on to join her high schools choir, then her community college’s choir as well.
Work hard, push through it; this is Kayla’s personal motto. Kayla has a lot of goals in her life that she is moving towards accomplishing. She wants to move out of her parent’s house and support herself independently. Her career goal is to do the things she loves and be at a job she enjoys. She also wants to create a network and maintain friendships.
