A Day in the Life of Kayla Abraham

Many say that first impressions really do matter, but I say it’s what comes after that is more important. When you meet Kayla Abraham, at first glance you might see a shy, quiet girl who keeps to herself. Upon getting to know Abraham, you get a clear look into the attitudes and values that she strives to show and carry with her throughout her days.

Coming to ONU

Coming to Olivet, Abraham had two older siblings who are now Alumni of the school and had shown her bits and pieces of the life and environment here at Olivet Nazarene University. It didn’t take much to convince Abraham to settle with this choice and get the opportunity to go to school with her sister, but it was even easier for her to choose a study within Multimedia Communications.

Passions

With an unclear idea, but confidence in the dream of being behind a camera, editing and creating content, Abraham says she finds the media field overflowing with never-ending facets and information to learn from. Although, this can become overwhelming. With a high interest in her studies and little skill to show for it, Abraham worries about her credibility in the future and hopes to seek more opportunities to show her passion and drive within the field.

Hobbies

Outside of school, Abraham spends a lot of time outdoors, with her friends, usually her two best friends and roommates, Lochlyn Stadt and Maddie Donberger, in the gym, and playing tennis. She says that this support system of friends has helped shaped her more into the hard-working and kind person she is now.

Friendships

I wasn’t always the nicest person in my past. I realized I needed to change my script and these girls have only encouraged that and brought it out of me more these past few years at Olivet.

When discussing the impact and value of their friendship, the best friend, Stadt, says that Abraham and she clicked like no other friendship she’s had before.

Within 24 hours of the duo meeting, and after a first facetime call lasting 3.5 hours, the perfect match decided they wanted to be roommates and have only loved every bit of living together since freshman year. All of them cannot wait to make even more memories together, living together or not.

Friendship is Forever <3

Being there for each other made it all the difference at school. We supported and helped push each other.

Advice from Kayla

As almost all college students experience high stress, Abraham says this can put a huge dent into her day-to-day flow and spiral into other mental health struggles. To help cope with this, Abraham practices mindfulness and self-investment; speaking kindly to yourself and investing your time into things that bring you peace.

When I feel overwhelmed with coursework, I do things like deep cleaning my living areas, taking a nice shower, or having a good workout. These types of activities give me time to invest in myself and step away from what it is that’s stressing me out. A quick reset almost.

Kayla Abraham

In all, just like most of us, Abraham is still figuring it ‘all’ out, but through taking it day by day, stepping her best foot forward, and working hard to maintain a positive outlook through it all Abraham keeps on pushing.
