Get to Know Her
You might see her smiling face at the Comm desk or working the sound booth for Upper Room. Aiyanna Armstrong is a junior, majoring in Multimedia Communication: Live Event Media Management at Olivet Nazarene University.
Armstrong isn’t afraid to go outside of her comfort zone, proving so by leaving her hometown near Detroit, Michigan to learn at Olivet Nazarene University, to even taking a semester in Nashville, Tenn. Whether it is music, photography, or family, Armstrong is all ears.
In the COMM-unity
There is almost never an opportunity Aiyanna Armstrong says no to in her department. Being a TA for the Comm Department gives Armstrong the ability to help students with media equipment checkouts or answer any of their questions.
“I like being able to help the department as much as possible for students and faculty. Sometimes I assist professors with projects. For example, grading or working on booklets. ”
She also volunteers to run the sound booth and photography for the student-ran chapel services, “Upper Room”. Upper Room is one of the many ministry opportunities that students can be a part of on campus.
Having a major that allows Armstrong to be creative in many ways is important to her. The Live Event Media concentration has given her many colorful opportunities to nosedive into the atmosphere.
Aiyanna Armstrong has helped film live Olivet basketball games and Life at Olivet events such as the Flannel Fest.

Armstrong’s current favorite classes are Event Planning, Multimedia Storytelling and Corporate Video, which allow her to fine tune her editing and planning skills as well as creative thought process.
Having so many media opportunities has shown Aiyanna Armstrong that her dream is to work for live media in any shape, way, or form.
Outside the Classroom
It’s good to get some downtime every once in a while. When Armstrong isn’t in class or working, you can find her editing some cool recap videos from her life or creating chill beats in her apartment. It’s hard to step away from the things you love when it’s your major.
Family is also a core value to Aiyanna Armstrong. Being the eldest of three sisters and two brothers has taught her that you can’t get the same support system anywhere else. School breaks are always a treat when going back home to them.
Learning in Nashville
Her fall 2023 semester was a hoot and a half studying at CMC: Contemporary Music Center. This accredited program in Nashville, Tennessee involved many majors including songwriting, live event and business.
Typical class days for Armstrong involved poster design, event planning for concerts, faith and culture, and a lot of group projects. CMC was perfect for networking and making more friends in the industry.
“I got to get experience events that look good on my resume, as well as helped me learn new aspects in music… I never knew how important social media was for a brand until I was in charge of the catering and hospitality for a tour we put on. It gave me a wide range of experience in the industry as well as lead projects.”

CMC is where her new love of music production was born. She in Nashville was introduced to the music-making software Logic which she still uses today. With many class memories, Armstrong is still in contact with most of her peers which some have stayed in Nashville for the industry.
Reminiscing as a Tiger

Armstrong has been roommates with Nadia Brown, a junior, majoring in Social Work at Olivet Nazarene University. Finding each other on a freshman group chat before the school year started has made the two inseparable.
We have even been roommates since freshman year!

Brown has always been amazed by Armstrong taking the opportunities to explore her major and try new things. She describes Armstrong as bubbly and energetic, yet calm and genuine.
What’s Next for Her?
The next step for Armstrong is to obtain a summer internship related to anything from corporate video, marketing, content creation, or event planning. Armstrong is proud to be all over the board in her interests and eager to get her hands on doing the things that she truly loves.
