Caislyn Hummel: Her Faith and Calling for Media

Caislyn, a spirited sophomore at Olivet, follows the Lord’s plan as she navigates her college career. Her focused concentration in both audio and video production gives her a unique opportunity to immerse herself in the experiences of two distinct worlds with divine guidance.

“I know wherever the Lord wants me to be, whether that’s staying in Ohio or somewhere else in this world, I am very excited and hope it’s with something in media,” said Hummel. Hummel is originally from Ohio, and she decided to pursue her career at Olivet to follow the Lord’s plans for her in media.

Engaged and dedicated, she works as an on-air personality for Shine.fm Monday through Friday, delivering heartfelt devotionals and creating an inviting environment for listeners. Hummel’s involvement extends to Media Services, where she plans to serve as the video director for Chapel, demonstrating her dedication to creating meaningful visual narratives.

On-Air Personality

Hummel’s on-air journey at Shine combines her passion for radio with her desire to inspire others to seek the Lord. As she delivers these segments, Hummel not only speaks to an audience but also gains valuable experience in the realm of radio.  This unique platform allows her to incorporate creativity into her words, influencing listeners and cultivating a sense of connection in the early hours of the day.

Hummel’s dedication to the on-air experience not only demonstrates her passion for the craft but also emphasizes her mission to inspire and uplift others through the powerful medium of radio.

Media Experience

Hummel’s expertise extends beyond her impactful on-air contributions and into Media Services, where her creativity shines. Hummel is a valuable team member who actively records for a variety of events such as basketball games, concerts, and directing for chapel services.

Her position as chapel director emphasizes her commitment as well as her leadership in orchestrating visually captivating experiences. “I get everything ready and I communicate to people who are running the cameras which shots I’m going to be taking for worship and for the sermon as well. It’s really helped me with my communication skills and even being a leader and how to take chances if you see the best out of people,” Hummel says.

Her passion for making videos and documentaries is at the heart of her media journey. Hummel envisions a future in which her skills contribute to corporate and business settings, paving the way for a wide range of video projects.

Chicago Marathon Experience

Hummel’s Chicago Marathon experience demonstrates the unexpected paths that faith and determination can carve. She was first introduced to the marathon opportunity during a chapel service last spring and was hesitant to take on the powerful challenge. A deep conviction led her to see it as a divine challenge, an opportunity to demonstrate that nothing is impossible with God.

In response to this unique journey, she felt compelled to document it, recognizing the singular nature of the experience and uncertain if another marathon lay ahead. Hummel’s film, which captures the raw emotions and challenges of marathon training, serves as a beacon of inspiration. It reflects the belief that if she can achieve this accomplishment despite initial resistance, it exemplifies the transformative power of embracing challenges with faith.

Hummel experienced physical exhaustion and soreness after crossing the marathon finish line, but the emotional impact of her achievement was profound. The weight of the challenge lifted, leaving her both proud and impressed.

Her roommate testified to her experience, saying she fought extremely hard to complete the marathon. Even though she had to wake up at 6-7 a.m. every day and during the summer, completing the marathon proved Hummel is capable of accomplishing far more than she may believe.

Hummel’s message is this, “The big thing I want people to take away from me running the Chicago Marathon is I did not want to run it or I never enjoyed running and so this definitely got me out of my comfort zone to get out and run almost every day for five to six months and I felt like it was definitely a calling from the Lord to do this.”

Hummel’s Life

In addition to her roles, she actively participates in Bible Study, spends Sundays at the Harbor the student-led worship service, and serves as captain of a soccer intramural team. “I grew up playing soccer since I was probably in kindergarten or preschool and my dad would always be my coach but then I just played all the way up to high school. Once I knew I wouldn’t be playing in college I wanted to still play soccer in some kind of way that was still fun and enjoyable. So I started up a team this year, we’re called Razzle Dazzle. It was so fun getting to meet so many new people doing something that I really love and enjoy that’s also good for my body,” says Hummel.

In her free team, she enjoys crocheting to be creative and using her God-given gifts of media to produce videos for her YouTube channel.

Her enthusiasm for video production goes beyond professional goals; she aspires to create impactful content for businesses, non-profits, and the broader media landscape. She looks forward to the next chapters of her college journey, guided by faith and the Lord’s plans, and hopes to leave a lasting impact in the world of media.
